Magenta Art School
"The artist appeals to that part of our being... which is a gift and not an acquisition and therefore, more permanetly enduring."
Joseph Conrad
At
this time in history, modern consciousness asks us to work
evermore diligently for the betterment, not only of ourselves,
but also humanity as a whole. These art classes can strengthen
one for the tasks at hand. We will work by studying the natural
laws directing how light and darkness interact, move, and are
constantly changing. We work in charcoal to get to know these
forces; always creating the full spectrum, from deep black all
the way to blinding white. We will understand and feel how
colors evolve through the magic of prism experiments, these
being based on Goethe's Theory of Color. Then using the mediums
of watercolor and pastels we will experience color. Two very
important strengths can gradually develop by working with color
in this way. A feeling of peacefulness on our earthly home can
grow because of new understandings. One is secure with the
natural laws of light, dark and color. They never fail. A sunset
can be ever more beautiful when one knows why, say, a crimson
red is shining in certain clouds. Also, one's inner life is
enriched and expanded as one works with black/white and color.
As individuals we each have our own personality, with its own
strengths and weaknesses. Some call it "our own
coloring". To know all the colors, we can grow and
compliment our own "color". To go from black and
white, and play with all the intervals in between; we gain a
better opportunity to see what "gray" we are. And more
importantly, we can appreciate better other people's unique
gradations.
Founded by Lian collet d'Herbois in Holland,
Magenta Art Schools are based on the spiritual science of Rudolf
Steiner. Lian added dimension to Goethe's theory of color so a
painting therapy that touch our soul is experienced in the
exercises.
